Systems need edges
A flexible identity becomes useful when people know where its flexibility stops.
Design systems are often sold through abundance: more layouts, more modules, more possible combinations. In practice, confidence comes from the edges.
A strong system states what remains fixed, what can stretch and what should never happen. Those limits make everyday decisions faster and help the distinctive parts stay distinctive.
The job is not to make every outcome identical. It is to make every outcome recognisably related while leaving enough room for context to lead.
